 So this is what happens when a piece of receipt paper makes tangential contact with solidified grease for a prolonged period of time. The paper has become a sort of wax paper (the translucent part) and is decently impervious to water. I've reintroduced the paper to the grease (making contact with the opposite edge this time), and I'll post further results at a later date.
